Martin Luther King Jr didn't die from old age...
He was killed at the young age of 39 years old.
As far back as I can remember, I've been fed a positivity-driven version of MLK.
And then I asked myself a question...
If people thought so highly of him while he was alive, why was killed before he could see his 40th year on this planet?
That question led me on a quest to uncover the King no one remembers.
There is so much that MLK wrote beyond the quotes that some have selectively pulled out of his writings to make it appear that anger within activism is unjustified.
Some have weaponized his quotes to silence those who are the recipients of racial oppression and systemic biases.
My favourite MLK writing is the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” It’s a blazing epistle of holy rage in response to the fragility expressed by 8 clergymen.
@safetypinbox created these 3 steps and I invite you to do them.
You can find the written and audio version of the letter online. In fact, the audio was recorded by
#MLKJr himself shortly after he was released from prison.
After you do these 3 steps, there should be no question why we need to remember this version of Dr King that many have forgotten.
Tag someone who needs to do these 3 steps with you. Share these steps with your network so we
