Yes, I shed some tears when I
least expected to!
Not because I was sad.
Not because I was grieved.
Simply because … my spirit recognized HISTORY, when these words of introduction rang out describing Madam Vice President Kamal Harris : FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN, FIRST ASIAN AMERICAN and FIRST WOMAN …
Then as I read through social media post after post, I realized I wasn’t the only brown-skinned woman, who took THE moment to take it in.
It wasn’t about politics.
It wasn’t about religion.
It wasn’t about partisanship.
It was about embracing this HISTORIC moment.
It was about witnessing what my grandmother who lived to be 101, probably never could imagine.
It was about representation.
It was about being able to NOW point to a real-life example I can show my bi-racial girls.
It was about ONE momentous occasion that will never happen again.
It was about a FIRST.
It was about the MAGNITUDE all the WORLD could visualize as HER STORY became HISTORY
Sidebar: Yes, I’ll still pray for this administration just as I’ve prayed for the last one and the ones before. It’s my duty.
